Election Night Getaway
Escape to Catalina Island on Nov. 4 for one of the Election Night Getaway Packages being offered by the Aurora Hotel and Spa.
Democrat and Republican guests will be greeted with a stuffed donkey or elephant to grip when the election returns get particularly exciting as well as a bottle of champagne for either celebrating or drowning their sorrows. Third party, decline to state and apolitical guests don't have to feel left out. They will receive an island dolphin and champagne to toast the end of the election madness.
While Aurora features in-room flat screen televisions, those who choose to watch the election returns with fellow voters will receive a 15 percent discount at the nearby Landing Bar and Grill. All guests will receive an American flag memento of this momentous election.
Check-in time is 3 p.m., leaving guests plenty of time to cast their ballots and take helicopter or boat transportation to the island.

Getaway and Go Green
Experience Catalina's wildlands and support the mission of the Catalina Island Conservancy while you learn about native plants and do your part to preserve them. On Wednesday, visit the island's botanical garden and on Thursday, head to the island's interior and the native plant nursery, where you will volunteer on projects like seed germination, plant propagation and seed collection. Package includes round-trip boat for two, three nights mid-week accommodation and admission to the botanical garden. $352 per person based on double occupancy, mid week.
